As a parent, there are countless decisions that you will make on behalf of your child. It is your responsibility to decide everything from what time they go to bed, to what they should have for lunch. Of course, you always want to do what’s best for your child, but not all of these decisions will have long lasting implications for your future.

Finding a school that will not only support your child as they develop into their own unique character with their own needs and interests, but will also teach them the necessary skills to succeed in the modern world is a daunting task. Perhaps, it is the most difficult decision that you will ever make as a parent! There are just so many things to think about.

At International School Saigon Pearl, it is understood that there are many questions that parents have when enrolling their child at a new school. Everything from the quality of facilities to safeguarding and child protection needs a parent’s attention. But perhaps the biggest question parents have is ‘will this school prepare my child for the future?’

At ISSP, staff regularly confidently answer, ‘Yes, it will.’

Developing the Hearts and Minds of Young Learners

International School Saigon Pearl is a member of the Cognita Schools group. A family of education institutions across the world, where each member school is as unique as the students that pass through their doors. Yet, Cognita schools all have the same purpose, which is to ‘create an inspiring world of education’.

But what is ‘an inspiring world of education’? The team of dedicated and fully qualified teachers at ISSP know that it takes more than world class facilities to inspire young minds. Faculty and staff at ISSP understand that it takes the combination of a community culture and a personalised learning approach to ensure that each child receives a rich and balanced international standard education that will give them a solid foundation to build future successes upon. At ISSP, staff utilise every tool at their disposal to engage and inspire their students, with the ultimate goal being to help students develop self-belief so that they feel empowered to succeed.

In order to deliver this goal, ISSP staff embrace the three main objectives of a Cognita education:

1. We deliver academic excellence
2. We develop character
3. We nurture a global perspective

The result of this triple pronged approach is that the hearts and minds of ISSP students are developing allowing them to thrive, rather than just survive, as they progress through their educational journey.

Continuous Improvement for Students and School

The programme of study at International School Saigon Pearl has been accredited by both CIS and NEASC which not only provides the school with a variety of frameworks to inspire continuous improvement, but also ensures that International School Saigon Pearl continues to meet stringent international education standards.

The curriculum at ISSP incorporates American Elementary and Early Years Standards and Vietnam’s MOET requirements, meaning that students are consistently provided with an exciting variety of powerful learning opportunities.

More recently, ISSP has become an International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Program Candidate school, which means that the school is currently working to become an authorised IB institution.

A world-renowned educational organisation, The International Baccalaureate offers three academic programmes for students; primary (3-12 years), middle years (11 – 16 years), and diploma (16 – 19 years).

The IB Primary Years Programme, which ISSP is aiming to offer, builds on the learner profile that is already embraced at the school, and provides a framework to encourage students to develop skills that allow them to embody the 10 ‘traits’ of the IB Learner Profile:

- Inquirers
- Knowledgeable
- Thinkers
- Communicators
- Principled
- Open-minded
- Caring
- Risk-takers
- Balanced
- Reflective

By creating an inquiry-based programme of education where a focus on developing these character traits is a priority, ISSP intends to provide a truly international, and modern, education experience for its students. By adopting the IB PYP framework and combining it with the existing Reggio Emilia inspired approach, staff will continue to ensure intellectual development and academic success, whilst encouraging each member of the ISSP school community to respect themselves, others, and the world around them.

The Foundations for a Bright Future

When we consider how much the world has changed since this generation of parents began their educational journey, it is easy to understand why parents can feel overwhelmed at the prospect of preparing their children for a future that is relatively unknown. The world is ever changing and no one can really say for sure what challenges our children will have to face.

But it seems that rather than asking ‘What will our children have to do in the future?’ The team at International School Saigon Pearl are opting to focus on the question ‘Who will our children need to be in the future?’

By teaching their students to become socially responsible, global citizens capable of thinking critically and communicating effectively, it seems that every ISSP graduate will have the skills necessary to figure out what they need to do all by themselves when the time comes.
